Events

“Events” 可大可小:历史 “world events”、日程 “calendar events”、体育 “track and field events”。单数常强调一次性大事,复数强调系列或类别。

  1. “Major news sites cover breaking events around the clock.” (主要新闻网站全天候报道突发大事。)
  2. “The festival includes music events for every age group.” (音乐节包含面向各年龄段的音乐活动。)
  3. “She won medals in two swimming events at the nationals.” (她在全国赛的两个游泳小项中夺得奖牌。)

“event” 来自拉丁语 eventus(结果、发生),由 e-(出)与 venire(来)构成,本义“来到眼前之事”。

event + 复数 -s;形容词 eventual、副词 eventually 同源不同形。

技术产品里 “event log” 指系统事件日志;社交 “RSVP to events” 常见于邀请函。

  • 固定搭配: “in the event of” (万一、倘若), “current events” (时事)

“e + vent” 联想“从通风口冒出来”的新鲜事,即突然发生的事件。

“Historical events shaped the city, while local events kept the community close.” (历史大事塑造了这座城市,而本地活动让社区保持紧密。)
