Happened

“Happened” 描述事件在过去出现或进行;也可表示偶然:“happened to meet” 指碰巧遇见。叙事里用来交代时间线上的事实,语气中性。

  1. “Nobody could explain what happened last night.” (没人说清昨晚发生了什么。)
  2. “I happened to see your message on my way out.” (我出门时碰巧看到你的信息。)
  3. “The changes happened faster than anyone expected.” (变化发生得比任何人都快。)

“happen” 来自古北欧语 happ(运气、机缘)加动词后缀 -en,原义偏“以某种方式降临”,后泛化为“发生”。

“happened” 是 happen 加规则过去式后缀 -ed,双写 n 以保持重读闭音节。

新闻报道常用 “what happened” 追问事实;口语 “as it happened” 表示“结果恰好”。安慰他人时 “These things happen” 是缓和语气的套语。

  • 固定搭配: “happened to” (碰巧), “whatever happened” (不管发生了什么)

词根 happ 联想 happy 的“机缘巧合”:生活由一件件 happened 的小事串起来。
