Happens

描述事件出现或时间推进带来的结果;与 to 连用可表达偶然,如 “happens to know”。

  1. “No one knows what happens next in the story.” (谁也不知道故事接下来会发生什么。)
  2. “Accidents sometimes happen when people rush.” (人一匆忙,事故有时就会发生。)
  3. “She happens to speak three languages fluently.” (她碰巧能流利地说三种语言。)

“happen” 源自斯堪的纳维亚语源,与古诺尔斯语 happ(运气、机缘)相关,本义偏“偶然降临”。

happen + -s 为第三人称单数现在时;无透明前缀。

口语安慰语 “These things happen” 淡化意外;科学语境 “what happens when…” 引导实验或推理链条。

  • 固定搭配: “as it happens” (碰巧;说来也巧), “happens every day” (天天都会发生)

hap 联想 happy 的“运气”古义:人生就是一连串“降临”的事件。

“If the app crashes, it usually happens right before you save your work.” (应用崩溃往往就发生在你保存的前一刻。)
