Happens
描述事件出现或时间推进带来的结果;与 to 连用可表达偶然,如 “happens to know”。
- “No one knows what happens next in the story.” (谁也不知道故事接下来会发生什么。)
- “Accidents sometimes happen when people rush.” (人一匆忙,事故有时就会发生。)
- “She happens to speak three languages fluently.” (她碰巧能流利地说三种语言。)
“happen” 源自斯堪的纳维亚语源,与古诺尔斯语 happ(运气、机缘)相关,本义偏“偶然降临”。
happen + -s 为第三人称单数现在时;无透明前缀。
口语安慰语 “These things happen” 淡化意外;科学语境 “what happens when…” 引导实验或推理链条。
- 固定搭配: “as it happens” (碰巧;说来也巧), “happens every day” (天天都会发生)
hap 联想 happy 的“运气”古义:人生就是一连串“降临”的事件。
