Kept

可指持续某种状态(“kept quiet”)、保存物品、饲养宠物,或遵守诺言。被动结构 “was kept” 常见于描述限制或照料情境。

  1. “She kept the letters in a wooden box.” (她把信放在一个木盒里。)
  2. “They kept talking until the cafe closed.” (他们一直聊到咖啡馆打烊。)
  3. “He kept his promise and arrived early.” (他遵守诺言,早早到了。)

“Keep” 源自古英语 “cēpan”(抓住、注视、守护),与古诺尔斯语词形有接触演变,现代义围绕“持有、维持”。
