Restoration

“Restoration” 既可指物质层面的修缮(historic restoration),也可指抽象层面的复位(restoration of democracy);语感积极,强调回到应有的秩序与美。

  1. “The cathedral’s restoration took nearly two decades.” (大教堂的修复工程耗时近二十年。)
  2. “Sleep is vital for muscle restoration after workouts.” (锻炼之后,睡眠对肌肉恢复至关重要。)
  3. “Citizens celebrated the restoration of civilian rule.” (民众庆贺文官统治的恢复。)

restore(恢复)源自拉丁语 restaurāre(重建),由 re-(再次)与关联“站立、建立”的词干组合而成。

动词 restore 词尾 -e 改为 -ation:restoration,名词化表达行为或结果。

英国历史的 Restoration 特指 1660 年君主制复辟;日常语境则多与文化遗产保护相连,常见捐款倡议 restore our heritage。

  • 固定搭配: “historic restoration” (古迹修复), “habitat restoration” (栖息地恢复), “full restoration” (全面复原)
