Stressed

“Stressed” 来自 stress(压力、强调)。日常最常指心理或身体上的紧张(feeling stressed);语言学中指音节重读(the stressed syllable);也可指材料受力(stressed metal)。

  1. “She looked stressed before the presentation.” (演讲前她显得很紧张。)
  2. “In ‘record’ (noun), the first syllable is stressed.” (名词 record 重音在第一个音节。)
  3. “He stressed the importance of sleep in his talk.” (他在讲话中强调了睡眠的重要性——此处为动词过去式。)

stress 来自拉丁语 strictus(拉紧),与 stringere(拉紧)相关,意象为“被拉紧、绷紧”。

stress + -ed 构成过去式/过去分词及形容词;名词 stress、形容词 stressful 同源。

职场与心理健康话题中 stressed out(压力大到受不了)很常见;语音教学里 stressed vs unstressed 是节奏与弱读的核心概念。

stress 像“拉紧的弦”,加上 -ed 就是“已经被拉紧的状态”——压力大。
