Supposed

“Supposed” 来自 suppose(假定、认为)。作形容词时,be supposed to 表示“应该(做某事)”或“被期望”;也可表示“所谓的、据说的”,有时带怀疑语气,例如 “You’re supposed to be here at nine.”(你应该九点到这里。)

  1. “The train is supposed to arrive at noon.”
  2. “You’re not supposed to use your phone in class.”
  3. “This is the supposed reason for the delay.”

“Suppose” 源自拉丁语 supponere(放在下面、假设),由 sub-(在下)与 ponere(放置)构成。

  • 固定搭配: “be supposed to” (应该), “supposed expert” (所谓的专家)

“We were supposed to meet at the café, but the rain changed everyone’s plans.”
